The church is indeed the bride of Christ. |

While today many people are down on the church, my son Mark showed me a book he was reading written by two men in defense and support of the local church. Here is a quote to ponder, “Loving Christ and not loving His church is like telling a friend that you love him, but you couldn’t care less about his wife.” (Ed Stetzer) The church is indeed the bride of Christ. And Ephesians 5:25 says, “Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” He did this for a purpose: “to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word and to present her to himself as a radiant church without any stain or wrinkle, or other blemish, but holy and blameless.” (vs.26-27) Christ died for and is working towards the perfection of His church, His Bride, His people. So, in conjunction with Christ, must we. We know the church is not perfect. It is filled with sinners saved by grace, people who have personality issues, quirks, and oddities. It is often filled with people who are needy, lonely, and hurting. It is often filled with people with problems and issues. This is because these are the kinds of people who are humble enough to believe. Most of those with their lives “all together” are unsaved because they are too proud and self-sufficient to come to Christ. Yet God has chosen the weak and foolish of this world to confound the strong and wise. So let’s not complain about the church, but with patience, meekness, and grace, follow Christ in seeking to make it and each other better.
