How I Feel |
| Posted by Pastor Dan (dan) on Oct 22 2010 |
I have been reading a book by Pastor Charles Swindoll in which he quotes another author saying:
My date book contains cartoons first published in the New Yorker. One shows a young boy in front of the class, doing arithmetic at the blackboard. He has just written “7x5=75” and says to his astonished teacher, “It may be wrong, but it’s how I feel.” There, in a nutshell, is the problem with the post-secular university. Faith is dead, reason is dying but “how I feel” is going strong.
Yes, this is creating all kinds of problems in society as a whole. We have been taught for years to be in touch with our feelings, which isn’t a bad thing as God created us as emotional beings. It is unhealthy to suppress and ignore our feelings. But when we begin to let our feelings dictate what we believe and do, we get into trouble. When we are only concerned about “a feel good” religion, we get off track. Faith in a good God, belief in the authority of the Bible, clear Biblical thinking, heeding wise godly counsel, and righteous obedient action, must triumph over how we feel.
