Pastor Dan’s Pondering
In my Bible reading I came across this verse in 2Chronicles 32:1, “After all that Hezekiah had so faithfully done, Sennacherib, king of Assyria came and invaded Judah.” My immediate thought was, how could this happen?! King Hezekiah had zealously turned the people of Judah back to the Lord. The previous three chapters talk about how he purified the temple, reinstituted the sacrifices and temple worship, led the nation in the celebration of the Passover, even inviting those of the northern kingdom to join them. Is this how God would reward him, allowing Assyria to invade and attack?! How we must trust God in our trials. They are not necessarily a sign of His disfavour. This trial came to Hezekiah after he did so much good following the Lord. So we must trust Him and His timing. In God’s sovereign wisdom and love, trials come, designed for His glory and our growth. Keep walking with Him. In Hezekiah’s case the trial came in the attacks of Assyria, but God gained great glory through providing Hezekiah with an awesome deliverance. Maybe God will do so for you too.
