God is certainly much bigger than we can ever comprehend. |

Recently the Windsor Star had an article on the research of Dr. Georg Northoff from the University of Ottawa. He is a “brain expert” and has concluded, “Because of the way the brain functions we cannot ever really know or understand the existence of God.” Now in some ways this is self-evident. God is certainly much bigger than we can ever comprehend. It always takes faith to fully grasp the things of God. And yet our faith is not an unreasonable faith, as it is supported by many good and sound apologetic arguments. And yet Dr. Northoff is a pure materialist, meaning he sees all things from a mere physical perspective, pumping blood, electrical impulses, synapses and the like. He knows nothing of a spiritual side to humankind. And it is this side which enables us to know God. God has set eternity in our heart. God has set an emptiness in our spirit that draws us to something or someone beyond ourselves. The Holy Spirit speaks to our spirit (Romans 8:16). This is where Dr. Northoff, amidst all his research and degrees, is in error as he casts his doubts for God’s existence or suggests He is just a creation of our own minds. We are more than just physical matter.
