Christmas Music

Pastor's Ponderings >>

This time of year when I am out in the van I usually have the radio tuned to FM 100.3.his is because they advertise themselves as Detroit’s Christmas station.  Starting in November they play nothing except Christmas music.  However I must admit I have been rather disappointed.  I remember last year hearing many of the same songs over and over again.  This year it seems even worse.  They are obviously trying not to offend people by not playing very many songs that mention Jesus and the true meaning of Christmas.  The result is a small repertoire and an anemic message.  I am getting tired of hearing songs about happy holiday, holiday cheer, and eggnog, Santa, Rudolph etc.  Although the songs might be fun there is simply no message there.  There is no substance.  There is not reason for a holiday, nor cheer in them.  And of course that is what happens when you take Christ out of Christmas.  You end up with an empty holiday.  Sadly this is a picture of many people’s lives.  They are empty and sad because they have cast out Jesus.  They have no foundation for joy and no reason for hope.  Let us be bold in making the true message with all it’s joy and peace known.
