2010 Winter Olympics |
| Posted by Pastor Dan (dan) on Feb 12 2010 |
With the 2010 Winter Olympics under way, here is a Bible verse related to athletics. 1Timothy 4:8 reads, “Physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” It is amazing to see the physical ability of the Olympic athletes. Of course they got to where they are through years of rigorous discipline and prolonged training. Being so physically fit and skilled is one thing, our verse says, but even more important is being godly. Godliness also takes years of training, discipline, prayer, being in the Word, responsiveness to the Holy Spirit, humility, repentance, teachability, etc. Yet it is so much more valuable. Whereas athletic ability brings value for this life alone, godliness brings God’s blessing in this life and in the life to come. It is far better to focus on what brings eternal reward and this is within everyone’s reach.
